Visit
Avignon and the Provence
The Limas is located in the very heart of the old
historic part of Avignon. The St Bénézet bridge
(the famous Pont d'Avignon), the Popes' Palace, the smaller
palais, which houses a superb collection of primitive italian
paintings.
You can stroll through the Gardens of the Rocher des Doms ,
from where you can take in fabulous views over the whole region
of Provence - Villeneuve les Avignon, the Mont Ventoux, the
Fort St André...
At the end of the rue du Limas is the Place Crillon with its
busy terraces, its cafés and its art galleries. It is
here, in the ancient theatre, facing the Porte de l'Oulle that
Molière showcased his first ever play outside of Paris.
Just a few streets away you will come across 'Avignon's fashion
Axis' with the rue Joseph Vernet and the rue St Agricol and
their designer boutiques showcasing the latest (and the next)
fashions.
On the bustling Place de l'Horloge, you can gaze up at the Clock
there (a replica of the one of la Scala de Milan) which looks
down upon the majestic artery, where there is never a dull moment.
Avignon is a town where you can simply wander for hours, forever
chancing upon marvellous sites and buildings, be they centuries-old
or very recent.
From Avignon you can also discover very easily any number of
fabulous places, such as Nîmes, Arles, the Pont du Gard,
and the Duchy of Uzès, all harking back to the Roman
Empire. Provence is equally renowned of course for its beautiful
nature: you
will adore the magnificence of sites such as those of les Baux
de Provence, the Alpilles Mountains, the Luberon and the Mont
Ventoux.
